What is a dongle used for? Acts as a “key” to allow CALYPSO (or some other software) to function. The dongle ID is tied to which software modules are active on that particular software seat. Why would someone want to use one? Dongles are convenient for CALYPSO PLANNER where multiple people may want to use the software on their own laptops (only one at a time – have to share the physical dongle). Also convenient if the customer replaces their computer. Just install CALYPSO and a license file and ready to go.
What is meant by “PC Bonded”? The software license is tied to the mac ID of the computer rather than to an external dongle. This requires ZEISS Software Licensing to gather the mac ID from the customer, create a license file and then send to the customer. Why would someone want this? Dongles have a bad habit of being lost or stolen (mistaken for being an external memory stick). Dongles can fail too which requires replacement (can take a day or two to receive a new dongle from ZEISS).
What is a Floating License? Do we offer this? Also referred to as a “Network License”, the license file resides on the customer’s server. It allows multiple users to operate the software at the same time. The server keeps track of the # of concurrent users and compares to the predetermined allowable #. We do not offer this for CALYPSO! However, we do offer this for the PiWeb Enterprise and SBS (Small Business Solution) software.
