Gage R&R studies

What is a Gage R&R study?

Customers perform GR&R studies to prove that their gage (a CMM for example) is providing repeatable (and thus believable) measurement results.  The operator measures several parts over and over and expects that the results for each part will be the same time (as it should be).  But, in real life, the results always vary a little.  The GR&R calculates if the variance is acceptable or not.

A GR&R typically involves five or ten identical parts and each is measured 6 times (for example).  So, there could be a total of 30 measurements (or even up to 90, depending on the study the user decides to perform).

PiWeb Reporting which is standard CALYPSO functionality cannot perform a GR&R because only the last 10 measurements are made available.  So, the customer would need PiWeb Reporting + (or even SBS or Enterprise).

Advice for Aftermarket Team:

  •  If you know a customer is interested in GR&R, check that they at least have PiWeb Reporting+. Use it as an opportunity to sell if they do not have it!

  • ZEISS offers a free GR&R Template to customers which they can use in their PiWeb Reporting + without having to create their own Template. (Ask Scott Lowen for this?)

  • Reach out to Scott Lowen or the Applications Helpdesk if a customer approaches you with a GR&R question that you cannot answer.

  • A webinar recording is available to anyone who would like more info about PiWeb GRR: https://register.gotowebinar.com/recording/4143486908421127684
