Most of you are likely already aware of this and are selecting your Component ID’s in this way. For those that are not using this method, you risk entering the wrong Component ID, which can result in any follow-on documents (Service Contracts, Service Orders) not having the correct serial number assigned. This method below is much faster and prevents errors.
In the Sales Quotation in Items click on the right-hand search square under Component:
In the pop-up, make sure Component Using Object Data is selected in the top drop-down. If Serial No is not listed in the Search Criteria, select Serial Number in the drop down. Enter the serial number, Search, and then select the leading square in the results:
If you get two choices in the search results, I believe it’s usually the first result you should choose. If you are unsure, ask me and I’ll help you pick the right one.
The Component ID will automatically be carried over into items, and that automatically populates the Installed Base column.
Then you can copy the Component ID and paste it in the subsequent lines for the same serial number.
